Vamos internacionalizar o blog

ENGLAND suffered World Cup penalty shootout heartache AGAIN as they crashed out to Portugal in the quarter-finals.

Sven Goran Eriksson's side put up a heroic rearguard action after Wayne Rooney was sent off on 62 minutes for another moment of madness.

Rooney stamped on Ricardo Carvalho while he was on the floor and then pushed Cristiano Ronaldo away when he came over to protest.

England actually played better with 10 men and had chances to snatch an unlikely victory.

But Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher all saw spot-kicks saved in the shootout after the game had finished goalless in 120 minutes.

Once again Portugal keeper Ricardo was England's nemesis. Two years ago at Euro 2004 he saw off Sven in another shootout with two saves before stepping up and hitting the winner himself.

This time he made three superb saves before Cristiano Ronaldo stepped up and converted the winning kick.

Portugal took the shootout 3-1 and Luiz Felipe Scolari savoured knocking England out for the THIRD successive tournament.

This had always been called England's best chance to win the World Cup.
